Ethnic Crisis and Insurgency: An Analysis of India’s Northeastern State, Assam

Abstract

A land of scenic beauty and divine nature, Assam is a home to diverse ethnic folks. The complex ethnic mosaic has significantly been changing the demographic structure and a sense of resentment has developed among the tribal and non-tribal population. In order to protect their own distinct culture and identity, native people have indulged themselves in armed conflict. This article tries to examine some prominent insurgent outfit profiles, their demands and area of operation in Assam. The articles also emphasis the initiatives and peace-talks between the Centre and insurgents outfits which has led to the gradual surrender of arms and such activities by the outfits
